Cue is seeking to hire a full-time Engineering Manager, Cartridge Platform Development. The person in this role is responsible for leading a cross functional, interdisciplinary engineering team to drive development and expansion of Cue’s state-of-the-art cartridge platform. This role broadly intersects with all core teams across the organization including advanced chemistry teams, mechanical/electrical engineering, manufacturing, product development, and regulatory. This role is responsible for rapid development of offboard sample collection and processing systems, onboard electromechanical and biological processing systems testing and integration, capillary fluidic system optimization, instrument and consumable integration work, and growing the test menu through immunoassay and amplification assay development on the Cue Cartridge Platform. Additionally this role will be responsible for scouting and developing future technologies to power a highly-multiplexed and scalable next generation Cue diagnostics platform. Responsibilities: Provide strategic technical development guidance, management and oversight of the Cartridge Platform Development team as well as grow the size and capability of the team over time Perform characterization, testing, and iteration to complete development of novel sample collection tools and systems, including whole blood, saliva, urine, plasma, and others Perform characterization, testing, and development of Cue’s immunoassay platform using magnetic-bead capture techniques across multiple assay types and multiple sample types Perform characterization, testing, and development of Cue’s molecular amplification platform using multiplexed electrochemical detection for multiple assay types and multiple sample types Develop additional multiplexing capability via multi-target amplification, target capture, and detection in a single fluidic channel Perform characterization of electrochemical detection methods to enable multiplexed detection of magnetic capture and internal control targets in immunoassay formats Collaborate with chemistry and testing teams to perform DOE’s for assay development purposes across multiple assay types both immunocapture and molecular amplification Explore characterization of capillary flow, laminar flow, and boundary-layer behavior using fluorescent tags and advanced microscopy techniques Set up and standardize high definition optical and video capture techniques to enhance visibility and insight into cartridge function Work with plastics engineering, chemistry, and automation teams to ensure concepts and designs are manufacturable, scalable, and forward compatible with existing processes Work with instrument team to ensure assay compatibility across various settings and use with accessories Lead root cause analysis of failed experiments to drive fast pace and maintain momentum during development process Set up and reinforce excellent data collection and reporting hygiene/habits within engineering team Verify product sub-system performance and reliability by designing and building fixtures, generating test protocols, acquiring laboratory equipment, and writing test reports Develop 3D models, assemblies and drawings using accepted drafting standards Maintain a project schedule and keep projects moving forward in a fast-paced environment Mentor and support employee development to promote Cue’s long-term growth initiatives Additional duties as assigned Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 5+ years of post-baccalaureate progressive mechanical engineering, product development engineering or related experience, including creating design in the form of mechanical drawings, specs, and schematics Experience working on product development, product design, failure analysis and finite elemental analysis; developing product requirements, defining mechanical requirements, designing system and component packaging and layouts; performing component and system testing Experience writing verification test plans and protocols, and completing test reports; and designing and developing new medical devices utilizing 3D modeling and Solidworks software 2+ years of people leadership experience OR Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field Five+ years of mechanical engineering, product development engineering or related experience, including experience in the above areas 2+ years of people leadership experience Physical Requirements: Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged period of time Adjusting, moving or lifting objects up to 25 pounds Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers Operating machinery and/or power tools You will work in a laboratory environment.
