Summary: The Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for building and managing a Systems Engineering organization that will meet Element Science's needs across all stages of engineering development including system architecting, requirements definition, concept, prototyping, design, verification and validation, production, and support. We are looking for a talented, hands-on engineering leader who can not only participate technically but also shape the future of this newly formed group. Responsibilities: Be the technical leader across functions, lead change management and make or contribute to major design decisions Develop and maintain design Inputs documentation including user needs, system-level requirements, product specifications, traceability matrices, and test specifications Work cross-functionally with program management, engineering, quality, manufacturing and regulatory groups on product and project risk management, usability, human factors, and regulatory standards compliance Define and execute system level testing and design verification, including coordination and execution of internal testing and managing external test houses Coordinate and perform root-cause device investigations, gathering input from quality, and all engineering functions, including software, electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers Create and visualize the system architecture, identify interfaces between sub-systems, and drive product architecture updates from release to release Define and execute the system integration plan Guide the team through and coach on decision making practices, such as trade-off matrices Define non-functional requirements, such as Manufacturability, serviceability, cost, reliability Mentor and coach junior-level engineers for achieving engineering excellence Qualifications: BS in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or Software Engineering 10+ years of related experience. 5+ years of experience in a management role Deep experience developing, integrating and troubleshooting software-driven electro-mechanical systems including analog electronics Ability to lead a team as well as contribute individually in a fast-paced, changing environment Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
