Job Description

Biolinq is a venture-backed clinical stage medical device company developing a wearable biosensor platform that measures biomarkers important to the management of many clinical conditions including diabetes. This a dynamic role as part of a team of engineers and scientists developing a novel intradermal biosensor technology. It is a highly influential role straddling R&D and product development, using extensive knowledge of software and firmware systems design, development, and evaluation. You will have the opportunity to define the direction of the company’s first product through concept ideation, design, and use of agile software development techniques to create functional prototypes that will be used in clinical trials and beyond. You will demonstrate your sound analytical skills in evaluating software system architectures, considering power efficiency, data integrity, functional and cost requirements, and design trade-offs. Duties and Responsibilities Define, architect, write, and test firmware configured to interpret readings from electrochemical biosensing system Architect and evaluate firmware designed to configure sensor during manufacturing process Develop software packages for use in the R&D environment to assess sensor performance and variability Develop specifications and test methods to experimentally validate design choices and optimize system performance Iterate and evaluate firmware revisions for minimal power consumption to position capability for wearable applications Implement various statistical signal processing routines designed to integrate parallel sensor inputs, data archiving of sensor readings in embedded flash memory, hibernation / deep-sleep modes for extended system lifetime Working closely w/ application developer to ensure seamless transmission of sensor data to connected mobile device Working closely w/ electronics team to design electronic systems for maximum performance and low power operation Statistical analysis of system performance under relevant operating environment(s) Defining specifications, generating documentation, and iterating software and firmware revisions Education, Experience and Key Skills BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent field 7+ years experience, with 3+ years developing firmware for use in regulated medical devices (i.e. 510(k), PMA) Familiar with Device Software Functions and Mobile Medical Applications (MMA) Strong aptitude with firmware development in C/++ for microcontrollers (especially ARMTM Cortex® platforms) Solid experience working with wireless data transmission protocols, particularly BluetoothTM Low Energy® Familiarity with quality systems, including design controls (21 CFR 820.30), ISO specifications (13485), and software documentation protocols and life cycle processes for medical devices (IEC 62304) Ability to interface with electrical, mechanical, software, and biomedical engineers and work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment Capacity to manage multiple projects, direct a software development team, and communicate ideas clearly to team Willingness to take the lead on architecting software and become the R&D group’s resident expert in this domain Physical Requirements If the job is physically demanding, this should be stated in the job description.
